Elegant daytime makeup is understated. It enhances a woman’s features but does not draw attention to her.
*Start with the canvas of clean skin. Makeup should be applied after the elegant morning routine that includes exercise and shower.
*Daytime foundation should be sheer. It should never be heavy or of any other shade than matches your skin. Using a tinted moisturizer ensures that your foundation is invisible or one may mix equal parts foundation and moisturizer for the same effect.
*Apply a neutral or nude shade of eye shadow to each eye lid to create a lovely canvas for your eyeliner. Never used a dark shade for day. Always use a color that is rather close to your natural skin tone. It should never be noticeably darker or lighter than your own skin. Set the shadow with a bit of face powder using a large fluffy face brush.
*Now apply a brown or gray eyeliner according to your skin tone. Avoid using black or blue as they are too harsh to be considered elegant for daytime makeup. Eyeliner should be applied impeccably with attention to detail. It should never be applied in a hurry or in a sloppy manner. Eyeliner applied alone to the edge of the lashes is always elegant, leaving the lower lashes without. This gives the eye understated elegance. For enduring eyeliner, line the upper lashes with a crayon eyeliner then set it with eyeshadow of the same shade over it. Finish by gently smudging the top of the liner with a cotton swab.
*Apply blush to the apples of the cheeks, avoiding excess. One may also sweep a bit of blush lightly to the eyelid if so desired. Remember understated rather than a bold sweep of color for day. A few dots of lipstick applied with the ring finger and then gently blended with fingertips also gives natural color if applied with discretion.
*Finish and set makeup by applying a light bronzer or powder according to season to the entire face very lightly. Using a subtle color that is one shade or so darker than your foundation and sweeping it over the highlights of the face makes for a natural glow that helps to avoid the fake or overdone look of makeup.
